Welcome to my new personal project: Desígnio
Hello and welcome to my new personal project called Desígnio. In case you already know me or not, I think it may be worthwhile to share a brief introduction about myself. my name is Bruno Delfino, 30 years-old and currently working as Brand Marketing Manager at Google San Francisco. I have more than 10 years of experience as a strategist in the advertising and marketing business working at big agencies and companies like Africa, F.biz, R/GA and Google Brazil. I’ve graduated in Graphic Design at FMU and some of my favorite hobbies are playing the guitar, practicing sports and traveling with my family (and make short family trip videos).
The purpose of this first post is to explain a little bit about what this blog is about, how it works and why you should follow it.
What motivated me
Since I was a child, many events in my life guided me to learn many things. Events like when I worked cleaning chicken’s poop at 14, or when I was almost hit by bullets during a missionary work at 19, or even when I came to the Bay Area to work with brand storytelling at Google. In addition to these and other events, so many people have crossed my path and were true sources of inspiration and knowledge to me, shaping who I am and what I believe.
Desígnio is born as a personal side project to write a little bit about the things that I’ve learned and continue to learn during the course of my life, and more than that, a project to interview some of the folks that developed great qualities through their personal experiences as well. It is also born as personal development idea, where I can put my mind to work, practice my writing skills and expand my vision about the world.
In a nutshell, I’d say that my goal is to inspire people through real stories, learnings and practical advice to be applied on a daily basis, whether it’s on the personal or professional life.
Did you know? My first blog was called By The Way and it was launched in 2007, when I was 17. In 2008, it evolved (and even got a Brazilian version of the name) to ‘Falando Nisso’. That was back in the golden blogging ages and I kind of made some success with my blog at that time!
Why ‘Desígnio’?
Desígnio is a Portuguese word and I first saw this word on very special book to me. For some reason it caught my attention, making me curious to learn more about it. Although there is not a literal and accurate translation for that word in English, here are some of the meanings and definitions:
I believe that every individual has the capacity to accomplish something bigger, to progress towards his or her goals and to connect with their values. I feel that each person has a meaning in life. We only need to find it and work hard for it to become a reality.
Another factor that made me love this word is the hidden word “Design”.
What are you going to find in this blog?
When pondering about the type of content that I would like to write about, I ended up coming down to 3 main categories that will be posted on a weekly cadence, every Thursdays.
My Story - People often ask me about how I got into Google and what was my path to get there. Of course Google is just the tip of the iceberg and a lot has happened since I was 12. That’s why I wrote in a series of 7 chapters about the main events and stories that changed the course of my life (going from good and bad moments to the funniest, unexpected and crazy ones). I’ll also write about learnings that I had along the way and obviously I still have a lot to live and learn in the years to come.
My Curation - My curiosity is endless and I’m constantly discovering so many valuable content on the internet that sometimes are unknown by most of the people. That’s why I’ve put together this curation with content, books, videos, podcasts, products, resources and so many other things that can inspire and help you the same way it inspired and helped me.
My Personal Hacks - I’m the type of person that constantly seeks to grow, learn new things and develop new habits that push me toward my goals. That’s why throughout my life I’ve developed and keep developing a variety of new personal methods that help me in different challenges of my life. The idea is to show some of these personal hacks and how they are helping me and can be applied to anyone else.
Interviews - During my professional career and personal life I had the privilege to meet and learn from amazing people. Each one with their own unique characteristics and life experiences. All of these people shaped a little bit of who I am and my admiration for them is huge. The coolest thing is: they’re people like you and me: unknown, imperfect, hard workers and with amazing things to share. My idea is to interview these people through written articles and podcast, being able to know more about their stories, how they developed their special characteristics and what practical tips they have for people that want to develop the same skills.
Why you should follow this blog and how.
As I mentioned earlier, the main purpose of this project is to inspire people through real stories and practical tips for personal and professional development. In a world with so many information and content available I hope that the content of this blog may be valuable to you and add to your life somehow. Feel free to share it with your friends, family and co-workers.
I know that we’re not in the golden ages of blogging anymore (maybe the podcast era, email? are we still in the YouTubers era or is it already gone? never mind!), but with posts being published on a weekly cadence, I know that it’s not always easy to know when there’s fresh content, so here are some ways you can follow this blog:
📱 Instagram: I created an Instagram account for the blog (@desi.gnio). There you’ll be able to know when there’s a new post and I’ll post snapshots of learnings and practical tips featured on the articles.
🔵 LinkedIn: I’ll also be posting on my LinkedIn account. Feel free to follow me there.
(The majority of posts will be in Portuguese with English captions though)
